Rockall has decades of experience implementing new and developmental technology at scale in large projects and developments, and solving complex engineering problems. This experience has been built from a range of technology challenges and application into an ethos and practical approach to apply to any complex major engineering technology solution.
Clean energy systems are rapidly moving into the area of complex engineering technology. Rockall’s approach is based on a combination of system thinking, critical factor research, and integration of engineering disciplines and full life cycle knowledge. We believe that Rockall’s integrated system approach can help new technology succeed and address the biggest challenges yet to be addressed. This has delivered results and positive outcome on complex engineering technology such as long distance subsea pipelines with complex flow assurance; new metallurgy and construction to cope with stresses and failure mechanisms; new subsea equipment to operate at incredible depths; novel control systems to manage high pressure and protect pipelines from rupture; novel chemical processes; digital applications; novel ultradeepwater riser systems; floating LNG and novel marine systems.
We see this as most applicable in the areas of floating offshore wind, tidal, wave, hydrogen, carbon capture and geothermal where sustainable technology solutions are yet to be fully developed.
We offer support to technology start-ups and SMEs on deployment, scaling up deployment into commercial projects and successful integration with major projects. This can include full life cycle considerations into design and production, with expertise on field deployment, installation, reliability, operating and maintenance.
We also aim to develop advantaged technology solutions to address complex problems in key areas of new energy in collaboration with research and industry partners. The current priority project is to develop a floating wind solution that is optimised for competitive LCOE, UK waters and UK design, manufacturing, build and operating capability.
